Radio signals from space are an additional alternative to searching for extraterrestrial life. Programmes such as SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) search for radio signals that may be the result of technology from another civilisation.

What extraterrestrial life might look like

An important part of the consideration is to understand that life on other planets may not be what we imagine. Extremophilic organisms that survive in extreme conditions on Earth may also exist on other worlds.

In addition, the concept of exobiology allows us to consider the possibility of life on planets that may have different chemical compositions and conditions. For example, ammonia oceans on a planet orbiting a colder star could create conditions for the development of a completely different kind of life.
